I seem to have missed July, so I have called this month Summer. It has been a fairly cool summer (by summer standards anyway) but I can’t say its been that
cool. We have had our share of 90 degree days, but less than usual, at least so far. It’s been a quiet summer with no one at home. Alix had a part in an
operetta The New Moon in Wisconsin. It was a 2 hour drive each way for rehearsals, but its another thing to put on your resume. She has also been singing
with a quartet in a Catholic church every Sunday. When not singing she is working as a receptionist in Chicago. All in all she is keeping busy. Krys finished
taking two classes over the summer, and is still working in Philadelphia. They will both be joining us next week at Rehoboth Delaware where we have
rented a condo. It will be the first time we are all together since Christmas. Hopefully we will get a few pictures taken so I can update this site.
Here in the Pocono’s it has become a bedroom community for NYC, though not a close trip by any means. Housing here has gone up considerably since we
moved here, but just the other day I did some research on www.zillow.com to see what the house we moved from and the house I grew up in is worth. For
us, we sold our house for 197,000 which wasn’t bad considering the housing market had crashed in the late 80’s. It’s worth about $700,000. We have no
regrets that we left that behind. We have had a great 14 years here. What surprised me was the house I grew up in which is located in Richmond Hill
Queens is worth $533,000. This is a tiny 6 room house with about 1000 square feet of living space in a small 20x80 plot of land. My parents sold it for
$33,000 in 1981 when they moved to Florida. It’s no wonder people are coming out here! Of course living 2 hours from where you work can take its toll. I
did it for 14 years, and it isn’t easy.
For those who do not know us, we have been in business since 1981. It was around that time that I decided to sell stamps instead of just collecting them. I
was young and foolish with no children and I thought this would one day become my sole occupation. Didn‘t happen then, but now in semi retirement
mode, this has become for the most part, a way of life.. It was brought to my attention that no place in the website do I give my name. Well, to correct that
problem I'm Greg and I was employed as a programmer/analyst for Computershare, an Australian company that bought us from DST systems last year. The
division I work for was phased out and all the IT people were shown the door. Computershare does not want to pay American salaries, and since most of
our records are converted to their system, our days are over. We moved to Stroudsburg Pennsylvania in 1993 after spending our entire lives in NYC. As
housing prices rise, more and more people are leaving NY/NJ and moving here, which is why we will be heading to central Pennsylvania in about 4 years.
Debby (wife) is currently employed as a bookkeeper at ICS industries (www.washnet.com) one of the leading manufacturers of hardware and software for
car washes. She also works part time as the financial secretary for three churches and a small private school. Alix (23) is currently in grad school at
Northwestern University as a vocal performance major. She is a mezzo-soprano and dreams of singing with the Metropolitan Opera Company in NYC. She
is realistic though and if everything does not fall into place within a few years of graduation (i. e steady employment) she will go back for her Doctorate in
Music. Krysta (20) is a sophomore at Temple University where she majoring in religion and obtaining a creative writing certificate. She is living in Center
City Philadelphia and loves it. She works in a store in Philadelphia called Ruka (www.ruka.com) and if you are every in the area stop in. They specialize in
artifacts from the orient and the items they carry are very nice. Basically this is a one person company. We did get a very favorable review for our mixture
in Linn's back in 2004. This generated a huge amount of work for me but it was fun. I have put the mixture review on a separate page. I was going to scan it
but the image was quite large and I thought it would take too long to load. I have manually typed it into the website. Thanks for taking time to read the
newsletter. There are a couple of photos below. One is obviously at church. The other two show us around the table for Christmas morning breakfast. We
have always had a champagne breakfast, and have the British tradition of crackers to pop. No we are not British, but we do enjoy doing this. Paper crowns
are always part of what is inside them.
